apparently has a linear regulator for power sources with a higher Voltage than the LED&#8217;s vF, as well as a boost circuit that works pretty well.<\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dealextreme.com\/p\/17mm-1000ma-5-mode-with-mode-memory-leddriver-circuit-board-for-cree-xr-e-emitters-0-9-4-5v-input-15880\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.dealextreme.com\/p\/17mm-1000ma-5-mode-with-mode-memory-leddriver-circuit-board-for-cree-xr-e-emitters-0-9-4-5v-input-15880<\/a><\/div>\n<div>I&#8217;m picking up one for the empty 2xAA Solarforce L2R body I ordered. \u00a0I may just bypass the PIC entirely to make it 1-mode.<\/div>\n<div>Sic22 posted some good but slightly hard to read numbers here:<\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dealextreme.com\/forums\/Default.dx\/sku.15880~threadid.213928~r.85749907\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.dealextreme.com\/forums\/Default.dx\/sku.15880~threadid.213928~r.85749907<\/a><\/div>\n<div>His numbers indicate that the voltage\/current\/regulation\/whatever falls off very quickly when input-voltage drops below 2.3v. \u00a0It&#8217;s not so severe that the product becomes unusable, but it&#8217;s significant. \u00a0So this driver may not be -ideal- for use with crappier Alkaline or NiMH\/NiCad batteries, but with higher quality cells such as\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eneloop.info\/home\/performance-details\/discharge-current.html\" target=\"_blank\">Eneloop<\/a> NiMH or\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/data.energizer.com\/PDFs\/l91.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Energizer Lithium Ultimate<\/a>&#8230; looks like it ought to do 1.8hr+ or 3.7hr+ respectively before falling below 2.3v total for a pair of cells. \u00a0For some reason\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/data.energizer.com\/PDFs\/ea91.PDF\" target=\"_blank\">Energizer Advanced Lithium<\/a> looks really pitiful in comparison though&#8230;. \u00a0Seems to me like it would provide well under an hour. \u00a0The data sheet is almost blank, but what\u00a0<em>is <\/em>there is totally not encouraging (the Constant Current Performance graph).<\/div>\n<div>For kicks, here&#8217;s the Alkaline data sheets for normal and e2 (now obsolete and replaced with lithium):<\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/data.energizer.com\/PDFs\/E91.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/data.energizer.com\/PDFs\/E91.pdf<\/a><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/data.energizer.com\/PDFs\/X91.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/data.energizer.com\/PDFs\/X91.pdf<\/a><\/div>\n<div>it -looks- like they could probably provide around 20-30 minutes above 2.3v.<\/div>\n<div>so good deal&#8230;
